I have to say, I've lived in Illinois my whole life. Only 45 minutes away from my town and never heard of this place. It wasn't until Saturday December 14th 2013 that my husband and I noticed it while driving down the North West highway. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! It is the most magnificent place I had ever seen. I was simply mesmerized by it. We took a quick detour to get a closer look and I instantly fell in love! I have only seen a very small portion of the outside of this magical home, but it's something I will never forget. I hope when I have grandchildren one day soon we will bring them to see the castle that made my heart skip a hundred beats. It's amazing!
My parents took us to the Castle as kids when it was open to the public. When the current owners (and former neighbors) bought the estate, we were invited to the Castle-Warming Party! What a thrill for us when, in August of this year, we were welcomed back to the Castle to tour the grounds and reminisce with the Strohl family! What a wonderful job the owners have done keeping the Castle and grounds in excellent condition. I hope local residents are able to experience this beautiful estate soon!
I have been fortunate enough to have attended many parties at this beautiful home. One in particular was a midieval times costume party. Talk about a perfect backdrop! I am so glad to hear they are opening up to the public for all to enjoy. I wish I lived close and could have a princess birthday party for my daughter there. I hope everyone takes advantage of this unique opportunity to enjoy this enchanting castle!
Thank you for having me and my family for the Easter Egg Hunt. My kids had a wonderful time and I know some great memories were made. Thank you Strohl family for allowing us the oppurtunity to see your beautiful home.
As one with roots in the Barrington area since 1959, on my 6th birthday (1963) I had my birthday party at the castle with a dozen friends and my Mom or course. We were able to explore and then 'eat cake'. Great memories of this and one or two other times there in the mid-60's. There also use to be a Tastee Freeze or some kind of ice cream shop across 14 from the Castle and was usually a 'stop' after taking relatives or friends to see the castle. Today, I just help people buy their own castles.
This is a beautiful home. I am truly in awe when I see this home and know that the owners must live this house. I am certain that it's beauty is not skin deep. My family can't wait to be able to visit such a beautiful home.
I've admired this castle, of course from afar, since I came to Fox River Grove 16 years ago. My kids love to drive by and we can only envision what is behind the Bettendorf walls. It's absolutely amazing. Wish this would have been an option for a honeymoon retreat like the old days. Love your winter lights, too!
The Castle ROCKS! Our daughter loves pretending she's a princess whenever we visit. The Strohl's are wonderful, welcoming hosts and we always look forward to attending events at the Castle!
